Modern
Electrum™
The exclusive alloy inspired by ancient tradition and crafted with five precious metals, for jewelry with a timeless aesthetic
A perfect synthesis of tradition, elegance, and modernity, Modern Electrum™ is an exclusive alloy composed of five precious metals – Gold, Silver, Palladium, Platinum, and Rhodium – 100% sourced from certified recycled materials. As the name suggests, it is designed to represent a modern reinterpretation of ‘Electrum’, the ancient alloy of Gold and Silver highly renowned by the Egyptians, Greeks, and Romans for its timeless aesthetic.
The result of intense R&D work by Legor, Modern Electrum™ embodies the best characteristics of each element: Gold gives it color, ductility, and distinctive rarity; Silver adds malleability and brilliance; Palladium provides protection against oxidation; Platinum contributes its remarkable prestige and toughness; and finally, Rhodium ensures exceptional corrosion resistance and unparalleled brightness.
To maximize aesthetic qualities and, above all, to ensure greater durability by increasing wear and oxidation resistance, Legor has developed specific plating cycles for each available Modern Electrum™ alloy: Red, White, and Yellow. Each of these plating cycles is unique—just like the alloy it complements—using only precious metals, fully REACH compliant, and entirely free of nickel, cobalt, and cyanides.
From Ancient to Modern
How Modern Electrum™ Was Born: The R&D Work of Legor Laboratories
Modern Electrum™ was born from the combination of Legor’s expertise in the science of precious metals and the exclusivity of the Diamonds De Canada brand, with the aim of creating a highly prestigious alloy composed of five precious metals, strictly sourced from certified recycled materials.
Thanks to the expertise of our in-house R&D laboratory, the interaction with the client, and attentive listening to their needs, an important research and development project was initiated. Various possible formulations were hypothesized and subsequently tested. The challenge was to find formulations capable of incorporating five precious metals while ensuring high performance at a reasonable cost. This required continuous commitment to measurements and analyses, as well as particular attention to the alloy’s functionality, predicting its behavior once introduced to the market for the production of exclusive jewelry and accessories.
This work, referred to as “characterization,” involved combining our expertise with a deep understanding of the scientific literature. Modern Electrum™ is thus the result of expertise, innovation, and customer care, perfectly aligned with Legor’s core values.

Modern Electrum™, as the name suggests, is the modern reinterpretation, made possible by innovative technologies, of the ancient “Electrum,” an alloy highly renowned in the times of the Egyptians, Greeks, and Romans for its timeless aesthetic. Electrum was found both naturally and refined and was primarily composed of Gold and Silver, but sometimes contained traces of Platinum, Copper, and other metals.
The composition of Modern Electrum™ includes five precious metals – Gold, Silver, Platinum, Palladium, and Rhodium – in varying percentages depending on the formulation.
Modern Electrum™ inherits its technical characteristics from the precious metals that compose it. Each element imparts different intrinsic properties to the alloy: Gold provides color, ductility, and distinctive rarity; Silver adds malleability and brilliance; Palladium offers elasticity and oxidation protection; Platinum brings its remarkable prestige; and Rhodium, lastly, enhances corrosion resistance and gives unparalleled brightness.
Modern Electrum™ was born from the combination of Legor's expertise in the science of precious metals and the exclusivity of the Diamonds De Canada brand, with the aim of creating an exclusive alloy composed of five precious metals, sourced from certified recycled materials. Through intensive work by Legor's R&D laboratories, various formulations were studied and tested, considering both the value of the content and the desired performance.
Modern Electrum™ is designed to ensure superior durability and resistance. For example, the inclusion of Palladium provides excellent oxidation protection, while Rhodium improves corrosion resistance and delivers high chemical and mechanical performance. Platinum, known for its robustness, further contributes to the alloy's tenacity. These factors make Modern Electrum™ highly resistant and durable compared to traditional alloys. To further enhance abrasion and tarnish resistance, Legor has developed specific plating cycles for each of the available Modern Electrum™ alloys, ensuring excellent technical performance.
Legor has established specific plating cycles, carefully designed for the Modern Electrum™ alloy, to further enhance and reinforce its resistance to tarnish and abrasion. For each available Modern Electrum™ alloy—Red, White, and Yellow—Legor has identified the most suitable plating cycle.
Absolutely, they enhance its uniqueness while preserving its sustainability. All plating cycles developed by Legor for the Modern Electrum™ alloy use only precious metals, are REACH compliant, and are entirely free from nickel, cobalt, and cyanides.
The final price of Modern Electrum™ alloys depends on the market value of the various precious metals in the alloy, yet the total cost remains lower than that of traditional precious alloys based on Gold or Platinum.
Thanks to the diligent R&D work of Legor’s plating laboratories, the plating cycles specifically designed for Modern Electrum™ have passed some of the most common and rigorous tests for assessing tarnish and abrasion resistance, including the Cross-hatch test, artificial sweat test, and resistance testing in sulfuric environments (TAA test).
