PLATCORE is an innovative plating process which permits a shiny deposit of a 65% Ruthenium and 35% Platinum alloy with color close to that of Palladium. Thanks to its proper aesthetic and chemical – physic characteristics, the Ruthenium – Platinum alloy achieved through PLATCORE is an excellent alternative to Palladium or micron Palladium alloys as intermediate barrier layer against tarnishing or oxidative process which is common in both the Fashion accessories and Custom Jewelry sectors, and caused by copper migration from bulk to the external layers.

PLATCORE has a density 29% higher than a pure Pd deposit and guarantees the passing of chemical and physical tests also reducing the thickness of the deposit by 20% - for example, a deposit of pure Pd of 0.1 micron is equivalent to a Platcore deposit of 0.08 micron.

To obtain the mentioned savings, with the same quality on the result obtained, it is necessary to deposit a thickness 20% lower than the one normally performed for the pure Pd.

The samples obtained through direct deposition of rhodium, at the end of the tests (Fig. 1) present strong yellow color and oxidation, particularly between the meshes, where there is a lower thickness level of the material deposited due to a low curent density area.
